Types of Shipping Containers
Standard Dry Containers (General Purpose Containers)
The most commonly used containers for transporting dry goods. These are sealed, weather-resistant, and ideal for non-perishable cargo. They come in 20ft and 40ft sizes.
Refrigerated Containers (Reefers)
Designed for transporting temperature-sensitive goods like food, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. These containers are equipped with refrigeration units to maintain specific temperatures throughout the voyage.
Open Top Containers
These containers do not have a solid roof and are ideal for cargo that is too large or tall to fit into a standard container. They are often used for construction materials or heavy machinery that requires overhead lifting.
Flat Rack Containers
Used for cargo that cannot be loaded into a standard container, such as large or oversized items (e.g., vehicles, heavy machinery, or large equipment). Flat racks provide a platform with no sides or roof for easy loading and unloading.
Tank Containers
Specifically designed for transporting liquids, chemicals, and gases. Tank containers are equipped with built-in tanks that offer safe and efficient transport of bulk liquid cargo.
High Cube Containers
Similar to standard dry containers but with an extra foot in height, providing more volume for goods. They are ideal for lighter but voluminous cargo such as furniture, textiles, and electronics.
Ventilated Containers
These containers have built-in ventilation to ensure airflow, making them perfect for transporting goods that require air circulation, such as certain agricultural products or textiles.
Double Door Containers
Equipped with doors at both ends, allowing for easier loading and unloading, especially for goods that need to be accessed from both sides during transit.
Insulated Containers
Designed to provide thermal insulation for products that need to maintain a stable internal temperature. These are ideal for transporting goods sensitive to temperature fluctuations without refrigeration.
Flatbed Containers
Similar to flat racks but with the added benefit of a flat surface that can be used to transport goods that do not require a roof or sides, such as heavy machinery, large cargo, and industrial equipment.
